A Cumberland County grand jury on Friday indicted a 28-year-old Portland man who allegedly fired several gunshots in a Japanese restaurant on June 6.

Hoang Nguyen is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, reckless conduct with a weapon and criminal threatening with a weapon.

At an initial court appearance last month, Assistant District Attorney Angela Cannon said Nguyen was drunk when he went into Ginza Town, a sushi restaurant at 1053 Forest Ave. He allegedly got into a confrontation with a waiter and was kicked out. Nguyen returned later, confronted the waiter a second time and pulled out a gun. They wrestled and the gun fired three to five times, Cannon said.

The waiter suffered a burn on his hand from the slide or muzzle of the gun. Another patron was cut by debris that fell from the ceiling.
