WATERVILLE $ Author-illustrator Matt Tavares will sign books and chat with fans Saturday at the Children's Book Cellar at 52 Main St..

Tavares will be at the store from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., after he serves as a judge for the 39th annual Waterville Intown Arts Festival to be held downtown Saturday.

Tavares graduated from Bowdoin College in 1997 with a degree in art and then re-edited his senior thesis into the book, "Zachary's Ball," which was published in 2000. Since then, he has written and/or illustrated "Jack and the Beanstalk," "Iron Hans," "The night Before Christmas," "Mudball," and "Oliver's Game."

His new book, written by Doreen Rappaport, is "Lady Liberty: A Biography."
