AUGUSTA -- Leaders of Maine's Corrections Department came under legislative grilling over plans for an online list of state prison inmates and others who are on probation.
Lawmakers today also probed for explanations of how a recent prison hostage-taking happened and how such an event could be prevented in the future.
Commissioner Martin Magnusson told members of the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee that probably no system could screen out all weapons in a maximum security prison.
But he reiterated that security operations to respond to last month's hostage-taking worked very well and that corrections officials will continue to work on improvements.
