Police arrested Walter Bennett, 42, and Beth Grasser, 35, on drug charges during the search of a home in Bath. Agents found two methamphetamine ingredients, iodine and ephedrine, in the home after a three-hour search that began around 1 p.m., Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said.

Bennett, who uses the alias "Walter Kruse," is being held on $5,000 bail at the Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset on charges of furnishing and trafficking methamphetamine. Grasser was charged with aggravated trafficking in prescription drugs and has been released on bail, McCausland said.

A dozen agents from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency are searching a house in Bath this afternoon after receiving a report of a suspected methamphetamine lab in the building, McCausland said in an e-mail.

Police have two people in custody at this hour. Police did not immediatly release their names or the charges against them.

Drug agents, along with Bath police and fire officials, a hazardous material team from Brunswick, and officials with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection are coordinating the search of the single family house at 2 Shaw St., located across the street from the southern end of Bath Iron Works.

Suited in protective clothing, agents from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agnecy's Drug Lab Response Team entered the home early in the afternoon and are now conducting a search of the house. The agents have a search warrant to inspect the house, according to state police.

Police closed Shaw Street as a precaution.
