Coast Guard searches for boat operator

By David Hench Portland Press Herald Staff Writer July 18, 2008 03:55 PM

The Coast Guard is searching for the operator of an abandoned paddle boat found this afternoon near Sequin Island.

A person found the blue paddle boat drifting at 2 p.m. with no occupants but a backpack with two books, the Coast guard said. The name Lane Bliss was written on one of the books.

A 47-foot motor lifeboat was sent to search the area.

Sequin Island is two miles from the mouth of the Kennebec River, south of Georgetown Island in Sagadahoc County.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Coast guard at 767-0303.
