About 6,400 Central Maine Power customers in the Portland area and 2,050 in the Alfred area remained without power Saturday morning.
Areas most impacted in the Portland region include Gorham and parts of Windham, Scarborough, Westbrook and Buxton, according to John Carroll, spokesman with CMP. In the Alfred region, the greatest number of outages are in Lebanon, Sanford, Eliot, Berwick, South Berwick and North Berwick.
CMP crews Friday and overnight into this morning focused mainly on addressing safety concerns with downed power lines and wires, Carroll said. Much of the power restoration effort began this morning.
Most customers in the Alfred area can expect to have power restored by tonight, Carroll said. Those in Gorham and other towns in the Portland area may not have power until Sunday morning, he said. In Gorham alone, about 3,500 customers were without power this morning.
"There's a lot of damage," Carroll said, including trees on the power lines and snapped utility poles.
