Monmouth Legion rips O'Brien Oil

By Scott Martin smartin July 19, 2008 07:51 PM

The Monmouth American Legion baseball team took two mercy-rule shortened games from host O'Brien Oil, 13-1 and 23-10, at Coombs Field.

In Game 1, Monmouth (14-3) used six walks and two hit batsmen in the first two innings to take a 7-0 lead and coasted from there on Forrest Dwyer's four-hitter.

In Game 2 things got a little out of control. Monmouth led 2-0 after one, and then the teams combined for 16 runs in the second inning.

Monmouth scored 11 runs in the top of the second, with Tyler Cobb bashing a three-run home run and a three-run double in the inning and Ethan Guerette adding a solo home run. Four walks, three hit batters and two errors made it 13-0.
