PITTSTON -- Volunteers kept busy this afternoon setting up speakers for a truck pull that will be held Friday night at the Pittston Fair.

The 56-year-old fair $ which runs Thursday through Sunday $ kicks off central Maine's agricultural fair season.

The Pittston Fair Association built a new track this year so the truck pull could be held outdoors. The association continues to make improvements to the fairgrounds at the corner of Route 194 and Mast Road.

"We used to do it inside the pulling ring but that's only 200 feet long and these guys like 300 feet," said Peter Weeks, vice president of the fair association. "We've also got a brand new stage that we'll be putting the final touches on tonight. We've had a group of volunteers working on that the last couple of months. That's our project for this year."

A full fair scheduled is online at www.pittstonfair.com.

Gates will open at 8 a.m. on Thursday for Senior Citizen's Day.
