PORTLAND -- A new poll indicates Republican Susan Collins has a 14 percentage point lead over her Senate race opponent Democrat Tom Allen among registered voters this fall.
The poll by Critical Insights indicates that 51 percent support Collins, while 37 percent back Allen. About 1 in 10 were undecided.
Noteworthy was that 60 percent of independents favored Collins. Independents make up the largest voting bloc in Maine. Also, 25 percent of Democrats supported Collins.
The poll of 602 registered voters was conducted by Portland-based Critical Insights between June 1 and June 27. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
