WINTHROP -- The Kennebec County Sheriff's Office and Winthrop Police Department are on the scene of an accident in Winthrop.

The accident, reported just after 3 p.m., occurred at the intersection of U.S. Route 202 and Route 135.

Traffic is backed up for several hundred feet, though moving at a steady pace on westbound 202. At least one car, a white sedan vehicle, incurred heavy driver's-side damage.

Winthrop police Sgt. Dan Cook said the white vehicle, a Saturn, turned left to travel west on Route 202 and crossed paths with a black Suburban headed east on Route 202.

Cook said there are no fatalities.

The driver of the Saturn, Cook said, was taken to a hospital via LifeFlight. Cook believed the driver was alone in the car.
