Museum new at Monmouth fair

MONMOUTH -- Fair goers at the annual Monmouth Fair this year will notice a new space for relics of the past.

The former rabbit barn on the fairgrounds is becoming a museum, according to fair president Jim Cunliffe. Those involved with planning the fair, he said, have filled the building with a variety of items for display.

"We had an open building; we decided to put a museum in there," Cunliffe said. "People always like to see things from yesteryear."

As the fair gates open Wednesday on this year's fair, Cunliffe said, he will gauge interest in the museum.

"If we can have a good year and it draws a good amount of people, yeah, we'll probably try to expand it," he said.

The fair, which ends Saturday night, will also feature the old-time fixtures. Fair goers can enjoy a horse show, dog show, steer pull, oxen pull and a midway.
