1:50 p.m.: Air Force One came to rest in front of the terminal at 1:29 p.m. and several black SUVs pulled up.

President Bush stepped out at 1:33 p.m. into the hot afternoon sun and waved a few times before walking down the steps to the tarmac. He shook hands with some officials at the bottom of the steps, waved a few times more and got into the first waiting SUV.

As the SUV drove away, the president continued waving through the closed, tinted windows.

In addition to about a dozen media members, a crowd of about 15 people had gathered, including 13-year-old Mackenzie Rowe and her mother, Cathy.

"Oh, my God, it's like you can't even put it into words," Mackenzie said.

"You realize this is the president of the United States of America," her mother said.

1:30 p.m.: Air Force One touched down at Sanford airport at 1:25 p.m. Thursday, carrying President Bush for what is expected to be a quiet three-day vacation at the family's home at Walker Point in Kennebunkport.

Kennebunkport is ready to receive the president and First Lady as they arrive in town for a family visit.

Melissa Cyr, a sales associate at Coastal Jewelers in Dock Square, said there's always an air of excitement during a presidential visit. There's also a lot more people, traffic and hubbub, she said.

Some of that hubbub will come Saturday, when peace activists plan to hold a demonstration.

Peggy Garcia, a town resident, was among those parked along Ocean Avenue and looking out toward Walker's Point.

While she's unhappy about the war, she feels its disrespectful for protestors to target Bush during a family visit.

Kennebunk's lower village, Bartley's Dockside Restaurant has put up a banner to welcome the president. A message on the blackboard reads, "Mr. President, welcome back….And….Thank you for your service."

The owner, Brian Bartley said, "It's an honor to have him in our town. It's very much an honor."

12:25 p.m.:First Lady Laura Bush's plane arrived at Sanford Regional Airport just after noon today and Air Force One is due to arrive shortly.

President Bush will begin his first visit to Kennebunkport this year, where he is expected to stay for a three-day visit to Walker's Point, the home of his parents, Barbara and former President George H.W. Bush.

This will likely be one of the last times he visits Maine as a sitting president.

President Bush has no public appearances planned.

There will be checkpoints on Ocean Avenue on each side of Walker's Point during Bush's visit. The checkpoints will be closed periodically when security calls for it, but the road should be open most of the time.

The Coast Guard will be restricting areas of ocean around Walker's Point, which will be marked by large white buoys.

The Kennebunks Peace Department, Code Pink and other groups are planning a march to Walker's Point and a demonstration Saturday against military action in Iraq. They'll be meeting at the Consolidated School on School Street in Kennebunkport and walking the two miles to the Bush residence.
