NEWPORT $ A check of gas prices in Maine revealed Thursday that Newport remains a statewide leader.

Both the Valero and Irving stations were selling regular unleaded for $3.68 a gallon. The Canaan Superette, about 15 miles west on U.S. Route 2, also was at $3.68.

Newport stations have offered low gas prices since Greg Lovley purchased the Valero station two years ago.

Also on Thursday, Patterson's Store in Burnham had gas for $3.69.
