Salvation Army to dedicate addition

The Salvation Army in Portland will hold a dedication ceremony at 10 a.m. tomorrow for a new addition to the agency's facility at 297 Cumberland Ave.

Special presentations will be made to Maxine L. Wright and TD BankNorth, lead donors in a $2 million capital campaign.

The building addition will enable The Salvation Army to provide services to more men, women and children in need in the Greater Portland area, agency officials said.

Improvements include renovated kitchen and food storage areas to provide more effective service to the hungry. The agency's pantry distributed more than 1,600 bags of food last year.

The addition also includes added space for senior, teen and family programs, including the Center for Healthy Aging, which is the only drop-in senior center in Portland with a daily meal program.

The project also improved access for physically disabled and senior citizens.
