High hopes for low gas price

By Doug Harlow August 02, 2008 09:33 AM

Thousands of southbound motorists this summer are taking U.S. Route 201 from Gardiner to Topsham as Interstate 295 is being rebuilt, Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland says in his weekly "Communicator".

There is an old market along the detour route in Richmond that has been closed for years, he says.

But the gas price signs are still up and are attracting some attention.

The reason? A gallon of gas is listed at $1.24 per gallon.

That price probably was current around 2002, McCausland said.
