Two in critical condition after head-on crash

By Portland Press Herald Staff Report August 03, 2008 04:22 PM

STANDISH -- Authorities are investigating a head-on collision on Route 113 that left two people in critical condition today.

The accident took place around 10:30 a.m. when two pick-up trucks collided by Watchic Road No. 5.

Ronald Thomas, 58, of Baldwin, was heading toward Baldwin in a 2006 Chevy Silvarado and Bruce Harmon, 19, of Standish was heading toward Standish in a 2005 GMC Sierra, according to Deputy Sherry Sewell of the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department.

Harmon's passenger, 19-year-old Amanda Griffis, was extricated from the truck.
Riding with Thomas were 83-year-old Norma Thomas and 38-year-old Brian Peters.

Norma Thomas and Griffis were listed in critical condition at Maine Medical Center late this afternoon. The other three people involved were treated and released.

It's not clear what led to the accident, but Sewell said speed, alcohol and drugs were not factors.
