WASHINGTON D.C. -- U.S. Senator Olympia J. Snowe (R-Maine) will be in East Boothbay at 10 a.m. Tuesday to see the damages of the July 11th fire at the Washburn and Doughty Shipyard. Sen. Snowe will tour the shipyard and meet with the owners and employees as well as town officials to discuss the future of the company and the economic repercussions the disaster has had on the Boothbay community. Approximately 65 employees have been laid off due to the fire. The company generates $4 million annually in payroll.
After her visit to East Boothbay, Sen. Snowe will hold a Main Street Walk from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Bath and from 2:30 to 4 p.m. in Damariscotta where she plans to visit with constituents, answer questions, and tour local shops.
