AUGUSTA -- Two games were finished and two others were suspended by a downpour that began just before 5:30 p.m., Monday at the American Legion Baseball state tournament.

Those two games will be made up today, and the three other games scheduled for today, including the Gardiner-Nova Seafood winner's bracket game at noon, will go on as scheduled.

In the first completed game, Evan Humphrey singled home Brandon Chase with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Bessey Motors a wild 14-13 victory over Kennebunk.

Bessey Motors advanced to play Hampden, and led 2-0 before the game was suspended in the bottom of the second inning. The teams will resume that game at 11 a.m., today. Kennebunk was eliminated from the tournament with the loss.

Bessey Motors led 7-3 before Kennebunk scored four runs to tie the score in the top of the fourth. Bessey Motors led 13-8 entering the top of the ninth, but two Bessey errors and a two-run single by Rob Nutter brought the tying run to the plate, and James Nutter dropped a three-run home run over the right-field fence to make it 13-13.

Rob Nutter finished 5 for 6 with six RBIs, while James Nutter was 3 for 5 with five RBIs for Kennebunk. For Bessey, Humphrey was 4 for 5 with a home run and two stolen bases, and Ryan Yates and Travis Fillebrown also homered. The two teams combined for 33 hits and seven errors.

In the other completed games, Gayton scored five runs in the last two innings to post an 8-5 victory and eliminate Waldo County from the tournament.

Waldo lost despite pounding out 17 hits off Gayton's Eddie West, who pitched a complete game. Waldo had two runners thrown out by outfielders and left 12 more on base.

Gayton advanced to face Libby-Mitchell, and Gayton led 10-3 entering the top of the eighth when the game was suspended by rain. It will be finished today at 2 p.m.

In the Gayton eighth, McKae Hyde and Robbie Leeman both singled, and a single by Kyle Neagle and an outfield error scored both runners. Travis Dyke then delivered the go-ahead RBI single.

Hyde and West each had three hits for Gayton, while Miles Davee went 4 for 5 to lead Waldo.
