Winslow school vote raises questions

By Larry Grard August 05, 2008 02:46 PM

Winslow's rejection of a proposed consolidation between School Union 52 and School Administrative District 47 communities has left the other prospective members scrambling, SU 52 Superintendent Hugh Riordan said Tuesday.

"There's been quite a lot of scrambling this morning to rework the financial piece with Winslow's withdrawal from the group," Riordan said.

SU 52 is comprised of school committees from its three member towns. Vassalboro and Winslow considered forming an new RSU comprised of the three towns, but China opted out.

Talks then began between the SU 52 and SAD 47 towns.

Both the China School Committee and the SAD 47 Board of Directors are scheduled to vote on the RSU Wednesday night. The Vassalboro Committee considers the regionalization plan on Aug. 19.
