Three New Hampshire men were indicted today by a Cumberland County grand jury on charges of aggravated assault stemming from the beating of a Navy sailor on Commercial Street May 25.
Christopher Hartt, 22, Thomas Hartt, 25, and Jacob Davidson, 21, were charged in the beating of Odelmo Robinson, an aircraft mechanic who is stationed at the Brunswick Naval Air Station. Davidson is the largest of the three defendants, listed in court records as six feet, five inches tall and 275 pounds,
Witnesses told police that the men had been making rude comments to women Roberts was with and when he told them to stop they attacked him, even kicking him as he lay on the ground motionless, police said.
Both sides in the confrontation had been on a reggae cruise on Casco Bay and had just arrived back in port when the fight broke out, police said.
Police did not make an arrest that night but were eventually able to track down the three suspects.
Robinson was in a coma for a period of time but made a remarkable recovery and is back at work, police said.
Aggravated assault is a class B crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
