Route 1 in Brunswick to be rebuilt

By Dennis Hoey Portland Press Herald Staff Writer August 07, 2008 05:55 PM

A heavily traveled section of Route 1 northbound in Brunswick is going to be rebuilt by the state, with work beginning on Monday.

The project, which would start near Cushing Street and continue north for 2.82 miles, would end just beyond the Cooks Corner off ramp.

Crews will also repave the northbound on-ramp from Mason Street and the last 1,000 feet of the northbound on-ramp at the Brunswick-Topsham Bypass.

The Maine Department of Transportation said there will be daily lane closures, but none will occur during the morning peak travel time between 6 and 9 a.m.

Construction work will be suspended during Labor Day weekend, Aug. 30 through Sept. 2, and during the Great State of Maine Air Show in Brunswick, Sept. 3 through Sept. 8.

State officials said the project should be completed by the middle of October.
