Milfoil mitigation begins today

By Giselle Goodman August 08, 2008 09:37 AM

BELGRADE -- Divers from the Maine Department of Environmental Protection head to Salmon Lake (also known as Ellis Pond) today to begin pulling the Eurasian milfoil discovered there.

A dive team was scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. The milfoil, which can destroy entire ecosystems, was discovered on Aug.1 and was confirmed on Aug. 5.

The threat is especially severe in Salmon Lake, the headwater for the entire Belgrade Lakes system, which is under threat from the plant.
