FARMINGTON - Loan of a cider press is still needed by the Franklin County Soil & Water Conservation District for the 2008 Agricultural/Environmental Day at the Farmignton Fair.
The educational session, set for Monday, Sept. 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Farmington Fairgrounds , helps kindergarten to grade four students from public, private and home schools learn about agriculture as well as find out where their food comes from. Over 1,000 students from Franklin County and beyond attend each year. Ag Day is always held the first Monday of Farmington Fair.
The cider press that the department has previously used is broken and in delicate condition and is unavailable.
"Since we only use the cider press for this demonstration once a year, it makes sense to find someone in the greater Franklin County area that can lend it to us for the day", said district manager for the Soil & Water Conservation District, Rosetta Thompson.
"If someone can bring it to the Farmington Fairgrounds that morning it would be a tremendous help", she said.
The press owner is also welcome to demonstrate how to make cider but if they can't, someone else will be found.
"The cider press is one of the most popular events at Ag Day and it would be terrific if we could find one to use this year", Thompson said.
So far, over 800 children are pre-registered to attend the event. Registration is ongoing for students, teachers and chaperones and home schools until Sept. 1. For information, call 778-4279.
