The final proposals for painted designs for the Sprague Energy Corp. oil tanks will be shown to the public Tuesday in South Portland and Thursday in Rockland.
Five finalists will present their designs using digital technology. An international panel of judges selected the finalists after reviewing more than 500 submissions.
The project calls for painting eight oil tanks and eight additional tank tops located on the South Portland side of Portland Harbor. The project is massive -- a total of 261,000 square feet of surface, requiring 4,500 gallons of paint. The budget is $1.2 million.
The project is spearheaded by the Portland-based Maine Center for Creativity.
The artists will present their designs Tuesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Wyndham Portland Airport Hotel, 363 Maine Mall Road in South Portland.
The artists will also present their designs at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Rockland at the University College at Rockland, located on the fourth floor of the Breakwater Marketplace on Route 1.
