Rep. Michael Michaud says Irving Forest Product's Pinkham Saw Mill in Nashville Plantation is being permanently closed, resulting in the loss of 64 jobs.
Michaud says Irving officials cited the slumping housing market and growing energy and transportation costs for their decision. He says he was told that some of the workers are being offered jobs at other Irving mills. An Irving spokeswoman wasn't immediately available to comment.
The mill was shut down indefinitely last January, but it reopened in May. Michaud says mill's permanent closing demonstrates that it's going to take time for the housing market to improve.
