Standish community center plan faces test

The Standish Town Council could vote tonight whether or not to move forward with plans for a community center.

The topwn's voters decided in 2006 to spend $325,000 on an 8-acre lot on Northeast Road for the project. The town also hired an architect, which developed an $8.7 million design.

The Community Center Building Committee will formally present its plan to move forward with a the project at today's council meeting, which starts at 7 p.m. Councilors, who are divided on the project, are expected to vote to either accept the plan and seek voter approval or reject it and potentially sell the land.
