Sea Dogs win in a rout

By Kevin Thomas August 14, 2008 03:23 PM

The Portland Sea Dogs clubbed three home runs, including a Lars Anderson grand slam, to beat the Altoona Curve 11-3 this afternoon at Hadlock Field.

Mickey Hall and Ryan Khoury also went deep as the Sea Dogs (65-57) won their third straight game and swept their first series since April.

Portland starting pitcher Dave Gassner (6-5) allowed only three hits over six innings. He left with an 11-0 lead. Reliever Miguel Asencio gave up three runs in the seventh.

Anderson, a first baseman who turns 21 next month, is considered one of the Boston Red Sox top prospects. He was promoted to Portland on July 15, and is batting .333 in 25 games, with five home runs and 23 RBI. He also hit a grand slam Aug. 5 at Reading, Pa.

Anderson, Zach Daeges and Iggy Suarez each recorded two hits for Portland.

The Sea Dogs continue their home stand Friday night at 7, against Harrisburg. Both Friday's and Saturday's games are sellouts. About 200 tickets remain for Sunday's 1 p.m. game.
