An Orono organization that runs a robotics camp in Readfield has received seven new grants worth more than $38,000.

Maine Robotics, whose programming is geared toward encouraging Maine students to take an interest in math, science and technology, will use the funds to purchase equipment for its six summer programs, according to an announcement the group made Friday.

The programs, for boys and girls ages 9 to 15, operate in five locations in addition to Readfield: Bangor, Orono, Portland, Gorham and Ellsworth.

The funding will also allow 70 Maine teams to participate in a December tournament where the teams test robots made of LEGOs they have built and programmed during the fall months.

The donors included the Davis Family Foundation, Libra Foundation, Fisher Charitable Foundation, Rotary Club of Bangor, Oak Grove School Foundation, Perloff Family Foundation and Wing-Benjamin Trust.
