READFIELD -- A Winthrop woman was taken to the hospital this morning after crashing her car while trying to avoid a deer.
Dawn M. Mansir, 40, had been released from Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston by this afternoon, said Chief Deputy Everett Flannery of the Kennbec County Sheriff's Department.
Police said Mansir was heading toward Manchester on Route 17 when the deer crossed into her path.
She swerved her car into the other lane to avoid the animal but had to cut back to avoid an oncoming vehicle, Flannery said. Mansir lost control of her car and went off the right side of the road into a stand of trees.
She was not wearing a seatbelt, Flannery said.
Neither speed nor substances was involved in the crash, he said.
Mansir had not been charged for not wearing a seatbelt Tuesday evening.
Her 2007 Chevy Impala four door sustained about $2,000 damage, Flannery said.
