ROCKLAND -- A 24-year-old Rockland man was arrested Wednesday and charged with manslaughter in the death of his nine-week-old daughter.

Maine State Police and Rockland police interviewed Robert Harford and then arrested him at about 9 p.m.

Harford's daughter, Ava Harford, was reported as unresponsive Sunday night. She was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport and then transfered by helicopter to Maine Medical Center, where she died Tuesday night.

An autopsy by the State Medical Examiner's Office found that Ava died of "multiple blunt force" head injuries, according to Maine State Police.

Ava Harford was born June 16. Robert Harford lived with her and the baby's mother, Kirby Gushee, 25, at 105 New County Road.

Harford was taken to Knox County Jail. He is expected make his first court appearance later today or Friday.
