Fire safety demos Saturday in Readfield

By Keith Edwards Kennebec Journal Staff Writer August 21, 2008 05:58 PM

READFIELD -- Saturday, the Lakes Region Mutual Aid Company plans a public awareness day featuring demonstrations and hands-on activities.

The event, meant to raise public awareness about what members of the association's six local fire departments do at fire and accident scenes, is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the Maranacook Community Middle School parking lot, Readfield.

Multiple demonstration stations will be set up for participants, according to Roger Scott, a Mount Vernon firefighter. Hands-on activities will be included as part of many of the demonstration stations.

The event is open to all ages and there is no admission fee.

The event, the first time the Lakes Region Mutual Aid Association has held a public awareness day, is put on by the fire departments and other rescue workers in the association's six towns: Fayette, Manchester, Mount Vernon, Readfield, Vienna and Wayne, in participation with Maranacook schools.
