Golfer Ryan Gay commits to New Mexico

By Gary Hawkins ghawkins August 23, 2008 12:01 AM

Gardiner Area High School senior Ryan Gay has made a verbal commitment to play golf next year for the University of New Mexico. Gay, 17, won the Maine Amateur championship this summer and is the two-time defending Class A schoolboy champion.
His decision to play for the Lobos is based on the school's national reputation, its practice facility and its penchant for churning out professional golfers.
"I'm real excited about it," said Gay, who will sign a national letter of intent in November. "It will be nice to kind of relax for the rest of the summer."
