AUGUSTA -- A 73-year-old landlord will serve a year in jail for trying to get someone to burn down his three-unit apartment building in Gardiner late last year.

No fire was ever set.

David Owen of Mattawamkeag was sentenced this morning in Kennebec County Superior Court.

He was convicted of solicitation to commit arson on June 13, following a two-day jury trial in the same court.

Owen also was fined $5,000.
