Four arrested in burglary cases

By Scott Monroe Morning Sentinel reporter August 25, 2008 01:10 PM

Four area teenagers were arrested and charged over the weekend in connection a "rampage" of burglaries in Newport and Corinna, police said.

The first burglary report came early Friday morning, said Newport Police Chief Leonard Macdaid. A house on High Street in Newport was broken into and a new all-terrain vehicle was stolen from the garage. Also, items were stolen from vehicles at the house.

Also burglarized last week by the same group of teenagers was a house in Corrina, police said. Stolen were a handgun and jewelry and other items, which were all later recovered by police.

Newport police received a tip in the case from a citizen. Lt. Randy Wing assisted in the investigation, Macdaid said, and on Saturday and Sunday they arrested the four teenagers who live in Newport and Corrina. Three are age 17 and one is 16; police would not release their names. The teenagers were released into the custody of their parents and placed under house arrest, Macdaid said.

The teenagers face felony charges of burglary and theft and a misdemeanor of breaking into vehicles.
