YARMOUTH - Town Council member George E. Sullivan II submitted his resignation Monday, effective immediately.

Sullivan, 37, said he was resigning because of "some personal reasons" that involve moving out of Yarmouth. Sullivan, who owns a mixed-use commercial building on Main Street, was elected to the council in June 2007, and his term would have run until June 2010. He ran unopposed.

He said he hopes to someday move back to town and run for office again.

"I had a lot of fun, and really enjoyed being involved," Sullivan said.

Sullivan submitted his resignation to the Town Council Monday afternoon, and said he did not plan to attend the council's Monday evening meeting.

Pending council approval, Sullivan's seat on the council will be filled by a special election, to take place at the same time as the general elections in November.
