YARMOUTH - Nomination forms are now available for people who want to run for the town council seat vacated Monday by George Sullivan. The deadline for returning the completed forms is Sept. 22.
Sullivan's term was to expire in 2010. After accepting his resignation Monday, the council voted to hold a special election to fill the vacancy on Nov. 4. General elections are already scheduled for that date, and councilors felt holding the special election at the same time would be less costly to the town and promote a higher level of voter participation.
Nomination forms are available at the town clerk's office. Twenty five valid signatures are required for a candidate to be on the ballot.
Sullivan said he was resigning for "personal" reasons and because he was moving out of Yarmouth.
