3:15 p.m. The body of Joyce McLain, the victim of a 28-year-old unsolved homicide, will be exhumed early Thursday from the town cemetery in East Millinocket, off Grindstone Road.
State police will be on hand when the exhuming of the body begins, said spokesman Steve McCausland. The cemetery will be closed while the body is being exhumed.
10:25 a.m.: The body will taken to the Maine medical examiner's office where renowned forensic experts Dr. Michael Baden and Dr. Henry Lee will examine her body the following day.
McLain was 16 when she disappeared after going jogging on the night of Aug. 8, 1980. Her body was found two days later near the Schenck High School soccer fields. Her head and neck had been struck repeatedly with a blunt object.
Baden and Lee are performing the autopsy at the request of McLain's mother. A fundraising campaign raised $18,000 to pay their expenses.
