Standish to hire new fire chief

By John Richardson Portland Press Herald Staff Reporter August 27, 2008 11:46 AM

The Standish town manager and a search committee of town officials have tapped Deputy Fire Chief Brent Libby to be the town's next fire chief.

The committee notified town councilors of their choice Tuesday and will formally nominate Libby at a council meeting Sept. 9, according to Town Manager Gordon Billington.

Libby, 26, has been deputy for the past four years and, if approved by the council, would replace Martin Jordan. Jordan's contract expired in June and was not renewed by councilors.

Billington said the town received more than 50 applications for the chief's job. If Libby is promoted, the town will then replace him by hiring a full-time firefighter and EMT, he said.
