UPDATE: Unity man identified in fatal crash

By Scott Monroe Morning Sentinel reporter August 27, 2008 04:49 PM

Maine State Police have identified Kevin Von Oesen, 40, of Unity, as the man who was killed earlier today in a car accident on Route 202.

The accident happened just before 11 a.m., police said. Von Oesen was stopped in traffic when another car driven by 53-year-old Meldon MacDonald, of Monroe, smashed into his from behind.

That pushed Von Oesen's car in front of an oncoming tractor trailer truck driven by 52-year-old Ray Morse of St. Albans. The tractor-trailer, owned by Gagne and Son of Belgrade, flipped over into an adjacent field and spilled its load of cement blocks.

Von Oesen was loaded into an ambulance but he died before a Lifeflight helicopter could get there. Neither Morse nor MacDonald were injured.

Investigating the crash were a team of six state police troopers and a Waldo County deputy sheriff.

Police have not filed any charges. A crash report will later be reviewed by the district attorney's office.
