Two local men were recognized this morning during a ceremony awarding former prisoners of war with the presentation of the State of Maine Silver Star Honorable Service Medal.

Robert S. Fant Jr. of Litchfield, a U.S. Navy Commander and a former prisoner of war in North Vietnam was among those scheduled to be at the ceremony at the Maine Military Museum & Learning Center, South Portland.

Andrew J. York of Chelsea, a U.S. Army Specialist who was a prisoner of war in Vietnam, was recognized, but unable to attend, according to a press release from the Maine Department of Defense, Veterans and Emergency Management.
