SALEM TOWNSHIP -- A 9-year-old Winslow girl, lost overnight in the woods off Fish Hatchery Road was found alive and well at about 2 p.m. on Sunday, according to warden officials.

Leah Cuetara had been missing since Saturday morning from a family gathering on the road, according to officials. She apparently had wandered off, but was not officially reported missing until about 1 p.m. Saturday.

Hundreds of people joined the search, gathering at a command post set up at Mt. Abram High School on Route 142, about 10 miles outside Kingfield. Many searched through the night, including wardens, volunteers and search dogs.

The details of the recovery will be forthcoming, according to Deborah Turcotte, spokeswoman for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife who was on her way to the scene when she got the call.

"It's just wonderful this had a happy ending," Turcotte said.
