AUGUSTA -- Four people were hurt in a single-vehicle crash at about 3:20 a.m. today after the car went off the road and struck a tree at Ward and Weeks Mills roads.

Augusta Police Sgt. Mike Small said the driver, Meghan Horton, 26, and one passenger, Douglas Buotte, 28, both of Augusta, were taken by LifeFlight to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

The other two passengers, Marcie Fitch, 29, of Augusta, and Jason Brunelle, 24, of Gardiner, were taken to the same hospital by ambulance.

"The operator was unfamiliar with the area, came to the end of Ward Road, crossed Weeks Mills Road and struck a tree," Small said.

Small said the injuries to all four appeared to be serious.

No information was available from the hospital on their conditions this morning.
