YORK-- A York man was charged with murder this afternoon in the stabbing death of a Wells man early this morning.

State Police charged Richard Dalli, 50, of 90 Rogers Road with murder in the death of his friend, John Wheeler, 39.

Police were called to Dalli's home at 3:30 a.m. after Wheeler had been stabbed once in the chest, police said. He was rushed by ambulance to York Hospital where he died shortly after arriving, police said.

An autopsy today by the State Medical Examiner determined he died of the stab wound.

Police began questioning Dalli at the York Police Department and charged him in the killing.

Dalli and Wheeler have known each other for about 10 years, police said. Dalli worked for a local cleaning company and Wheeler was a carpenter.

Police did not say what led to the stabbing.

Dalli is being held at York County Jail and is expected to appear in court Wednesday morning.
