ORONO -- Members of the only Maine football team to play in a bowl game will be in Orono this month for a reunion and festivities to recognize their achievement.
The 1965 squad played in the Tangerine Bowl in Orlando, Fla., after going 5-0 in the Yankee Conference and 8-1 overall. The Black Bears lost 31-0 to East Carolina, but remain the only Maine squad to compete in a bowl.
Team members will be honored during a halftime ceremony at Maine's Sept. 13 game against Stony Brook game at Alfond Stadium.
During two days of festivities, the team will also play a round of golf, take a cruise on the Penobscot River and attend a banquet in its honor. About 50 team members are expected to attend.
