Investigators for the State Fire Marshal's Office are trying to determine what caused a fire at a Windham house where police seized marijuana earlier in the day.
A task force comprised of local police and members of the federal Drug Enforcement Administration executed a search warrant at 147 Smith Road at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Police were investigating a marijuana cultivation operation at a rented house.
Officers seized marijuana growing at the house but left the equipment used to grow it, police said.
At 7:30 p.m., firefighters were called to the same house to battle a fire. They brought the fire under control in about an hour.
Police said they were waiting for a report from the Fire Marshal's Office about what caused the fire and whether it is suspicious.
Nobody was injured in the fire, and no arrests have been made in the drug investigation.
