Winthrop High School scored 33 points in the first quarter and cruised to a 43-16 win over Traip Academy in its Class C football opener on Friday.

Skylar Whaley scored two touchdowns in the first quarter on runs of 5 and 10 yards. Joe Morey started the scoring with a 31-yard TD run and Jake Steele added a 15-yard TD run.

Corey Harris and Spencer Smith added touchdowns in the second half for Winthrop.
