Farmington magazine scam

By Betty Jespersen Morning Sentinel reporter September 06, 2008 05:01 PM

FARMINGTON # Police are looking for a woman going door-to- door selling magazine subscriptions after she allegedly stole money from a Davis Road residence on Saturday.

The woman is described as being in her 20s, about 5-foot-four-inches tall, 140-pounds, wearing glasses and pants and had her hair in a ponytail. The witnesses were not able to recall the color of her hair, and she was on foot, Farmington police Officer Ed Hastings said on Saturday.

The woman said she was selling subscriptions to earn points.

Hastings canvassed the residential neighborhood and found another person who said she also had purchased a subscription. Both residents said the saleswoman talked her way into the house and extended her visit by asking to use the bathroom.

The company allegedly distributing the subscriptions is Atlantic Circulation. Hastings said he has learned there have been consumer complaints made about this company involving subscriptions that never arrived.

Hastings asks anyone who has seen the woman or bought a subscription from anyone claiming to be from Atlantic Circulation to call the Farmington police Department at 778-6311.
