FARMINGTON - Roger Spear, a lifelong local baseball enthusiast and memorabilia collector, will discuss the history behind his recent donation of the sport's artifacts at tonight's meeting of the Farmington Historical Society.

Spear, the former vice-president of administration at the University of Maine Farmington, will make his presentation during the program portion of the meeting. There is a pot luck supper that starts at 6 p.m. in the the Henderson Memorial Church basement on Academy Street, followed by a short business meeting. The program starts at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Spear will describe the memorabilia, the history of baseball, particularly of the local team, the Farmington Flyers, and Franklin County's contribution to the sport.

Spear's life passion has been baseball and the accumulation of artifacts to commemorate the sport and significant events. Upon his retirement from the UMF, he donated a significant number of items to the Historical Society that had links to the area.
