A judge ordered a 25-year-old Lewiston man to undergo psychological counseling and substance abuse treatment as a condition of probation during his sentencing to six years in prison for assaulting his baby daughter nearly a year ago.
Androscoggin County Superior Court Justice Paul Fritzsche sentenced Anthony Mazerolle on Friday after a jury convicted him of charges in the beating of 6-month-old Kela Coffey last October. Doctors testified the child's injuries may lead to permanent damage including mental retardation, blindness, loss of motor skills and epilepsy.
The judge sentenced Mazerolle to nine years with all but six suspended for aggravated assault, plus three years probation, and four years in prison, to be served concurrently, for assault.
