Smoking at Fort Williams Park will be banned, if a new ordinance in Cape Elizabeth is approved.

The town council will hold a public hearing tonight at 7:30, on updates to the town's Miscellaneous Offenses Ordinance.

Many of the changes affect Fort Williams Park. Among proposed amendments are a ban on smoking in the park; a requirement that pet owners clean up after their pets; and permit requirements for commercial filming, and for weddings that would attract more than 20 people.

The proposed amendments increase various fines, and impose fines for failing to obtain permits.

The council will also hold a hearing on proposed updates to the town's Floodplain Management Ordinance, part of the town's construction code. The updates follow the minimums required by law, except that new structures need to be two feet above the base flood elevation, rather than the minimum one foot.
